Correspondence, accounts, lists of supplies, legal papers relating to mining activities in Alaska, California (primarily around Angels Camp) and Nevada, and to oil ventures in southern California. Also, letters containing information concerning his brother Louis' experiences whaling off the coast of Alaska from members of the family, including Louis, his mother Anna, and Louis' wife, Bess. Letter from William T. Reid included in response to Lane's accusations of unfair treatment of his sons, Charles and Travis, regarding housing at the Belmont School.
